Booker T. Washington Vs Dubois

Booker T. Washington did not ask for white equality, but rather education to prepare for real-life jobs. He was only interested in getting assistance from whites, and accepting the blacks’ place on Earth. WEB dubois concentrated on things opposite to those of Booker T. Washington. Dubois emphasized a gradualist strategy. According to the gradualist political approach, Dubois believed that blacks must be book-smart in order to achieve success. In the early days of racism, two leaders were instrumental in controlling the situation. Booker T. Washington was the first to speak out against segregation in America. WEB Dubois followed suit.

Booker T. Washington was the first black leader. Booker T. Washington wished to see the best in all blacks. Booker T. believed that blacks need to take responsibility for their own lives. Booker T. Washington did not ask for equality, but rather help from the whites. Booker T. Washington thought that focusing on equality would make them no further in society. Booker T. Washington argued that it was more crucial for blacks to be prepared for the real world than to just learn from books. Booker T. Washington wanted blacks to be educated on how to perform their jobs. Booker T. Washington, who was a well-known public speaker, did not only speak to blacks. He focused his remarks on stereotypes of blacks when he spoke to whites. Though, when he addressed the blacks he told them that they should not be afraid to stand out and be themselves. Booker T. Washington’s focus was on the economic equality of all blacks.

WEB DUBOS was the leader who came next. He focused his attention on the opposite of what Booker T. Washington did. Dubois concentrated on a gradualist strategy. According to the gradualist political approach, Dubois believed that blacks must be book-smart in order to succeed. He thought that blacks should have the same education as whites and a high IQ, which comes from reading, writing and formal education. He wanted intellectual advancements for blacks. Dubois thought that the smarter blacks became, the more they would be equal to whites. Dubois claimed that economic stability was not enough for blacks and they should be educated. Dubois, in essence, took Booker T. Washington’s thoughts and went a little further. Dubois, unlike Booker T. Washington, wanted to give blacks equal opportunities. He wanted to see blacks have equal opportunities with whites. Booker T. Washington dominated the political scene at the time.

Booker T. Washington accepted that whites would always be superior to blacks, and he did not fight it. It was important to understand that blacks were never going to be equal. This prevented them from trying too hard to improve their lives. Booker T. Washington preached the idea that racism would never be overcome. Booker T. Washington taught them not to be concerned about equality. This was done so that the blacks wouldn’t lose their faith in equality and ultimately give up hope. They dealt with their system and focused on them and their brothers. They accepted their blackness as a part of this country. There are still racists who do not accept blacks due to their race and culture. But today, blacks accept this and understand it. Booker T. Washington’s story is exactly what occurred in his day.
